A Developing Baby

1st week (1st month)

a) sex of baby is determined
b) genetic traits are determined
c) embryo travels from fallopian tube to the uterus.

2nd week (1st month)

a) egg is implanted on the wall of the uterus
b) placenta develops

3rd week (1st month)

a) heart begins to develop, 18-25 days.
b) brain begins to develop
c) intestinal tract begins to develop

4th - 5th weeks (1st month)

a) vertebra begins to develop
b) blood flow begins
c) eye development begins
d) arm and leg development begins
e) the umbilical cord begins to form

6th week (1 - 2 months)

a) fingers and toes appear
b) nose, ears, develop
c) joints are developing 

7th week (1 - 2 months)

a) all essential organs are developing
b) eyelids form

8th week (2 months)

a) muscle contraction occurs
b) facial features become more prominent
c) heart has four chambers

9th - 12th week (2 - 3 months)

13th - 16th weeks (3 - 4 months)

17th - 20th weeks (4 - 5 months)

33rd - 40th weeks (8 - 9 months)

b) the baby weighs about 6 - 8 pounds
c) the baby is ready to be born
d) sleep patterns are apparent
